Experienced Craft Professionals
For over 70 years the Constructors Association of Western Pennsylvania has proudly represented union contractors engaged in the heavy and highway construction industry. Our more than 70 contractors working throughout Western Pennsylvania are in need of skilled workers, heavy equipment operators, carpenters, concrete finishers and laborers. As union contractors, CAWP contractor members employ workers who are members of the Carpenters, Cement Masons, Laborers, Operating Engineers, Pile Drivers and Teamsters Unions. The benefits of union membership are many.
Better Wages – Union Workers Earn More
According to the U.S. Department of Labor’s Bureau of Labor Statistics, Union workers earn more than nonunion workers.
Better Pension and Healthcare
Union workers are more likely than their nonunion counterparts to receive health care and pension benefits, according to the U.S. Bureau of Labor Statistics.
Portability – The Opportunity to Work for Several Different Employers
In uncertain economic times, workers become concerned about the financial well being of the company they work for and the possibilities of facing a layoff. Through union hiring halls, union craft workers have the opportunity to work for any of the hundreds of union contractors.
Advancing Your Career through Training and Education
Union members are afforded the opportunities to improve and upgrade their skills – and, consequently, their wages and responsibilities — through union and management-sponsored education and training programs.
